The Magic in Massage

Every time I walk past a massage parlor, I just want to strip off all my worries and tension, lye down and let the masseur squeeze all of my troubles away. But then I look at my empty wallet and the children I’m carrying in tow, and continue walking. Unless you have the time and the finances to afford a professional treatment, then your only other option is to bat your eye lashes and ask your partner for the gift of massage.

Sometimes massage pressure is needed at these points to clear up blockages and help ensure a healthy, balanced and harmonious flow of energy through the meridians. This stimulates the body’s circulatory, lymphatic and hormonal systems. It also helps the function of the immune system and the body’s natural ability to heal itself. If you or your partner want to go beyond a neck rub, do some research and learn what acupressure points work for your body.

Setting the Mood
  • Lighting – You want soft dim lighting preferably orange lights to give you a warm relaxing feel. Even better, are the soft glow of candles or a salt lamp
  • Atmosphere – During your massage, you may want to play calming music or serene sounds like flowing water or leaves blowing. This will help your mind to relax. Lay on a firm and flat bed, with towels to protect your bedding from any spillages. A platform that is too soft can be dangerous for your back and spine.
  • Distractions – remove distractions such as emails, phones, children (haha!) etc. You want the room and experience to be as relaxing and as quiet as possible.
Which Oils are best?

Almond oil- Almond oil is a great massage oil because of its softening and soothing capabilities. Its consistency is medium, and improves skin absorption for moisture. Sweet almond oil is absorbed fairly quickly, but not so quickly that you need to keep reapplying it.

Macadamia Nut oil is the richest botanical source of palmitoleic acid. As a carrier oil, it helps the essential oils penetrate the skin, particularly in massage.

Other great oils include Avocado Oil, Coconut Oil, Apricot Oil & Wheatgerm oil.
